"Past Meets Future"
Chapter One

By Dyani Raelin

Micky woke with a start. Another bad dream. Seemed they were becoming more frequent. Sitting up in bed, he scooted back and rested his back on the headboard. He looked over to Mike who was still sleeping. Sighing, he drew his knees up to his chest. Resting his head on his knees Micky recalled what little details he could remember of his dream.

The dream started out the same every time. Micky was standing on the beach, alone. He didn't know where anyone else was and it appeared he was the only one around for miles. Then he heard the song. It came from the sea, or so it seemed. Walking out to the edge of the water, he looked around. Next thing he knew he was being pulled under by unseen hands. Micky struggled for all his worth, but the battle was never won.

Completely immersed in the water, Micky watched as the force pulled him farther down into the depths of the ocean. From here, the dream took different turns. The last time Mike was in it and was struggling to save Micky from his captors, only to meet his demise. Then Micky woke up.

The mysterious song still rang in Micky's ears. The lyrics, "Till you're safe and sound," repeated over and over with some strange reverb added to it. 'What the hell does that mean?' he thought to himself. 'How can I be safe and sound being drowned? How can I be safe when Mike gets killed?' Looking over to his friend, the curly haired man sighed again, his head still on his knees.

Mike woke with the sun blinding him. Rolling over, he peered at Micky's bed and sighed, Micky was asleep sitting up in bed, his head draped over his arms, which were resting on his knees. Rising from bed, the taller man padded over to his friend's bed and looked down at him. Micky looked a bit pale. He didn't seem to be getting a very good rest these days and it worried Mike. Placing one arm behind Micky's neck and the other under his knees, Mike laid his sleeping friend on his back and drew the quilt up around him.

Stroking Micky's cheek with a crooked finger, Mike shook his head. He wished he knew what was going on inside Micky's mind. Micky refused to tell Mike what was wrong. He'd always say the same thing when pressed, "I'm fine." The Texan knew Micky wasn't fine. Mike decided to let Micky sleep in a while longer. He straightened up and walked out the door.

*****

Micky stood on the beach again. Hearing the song, he took a step closer to the edge of the water. Unseen hands pulled him under. This time the song was different..."When you're lonely (you're not alone)...It's gonna take a little time to make it to the other side".

Micky held his breath for as long as he could, feeling like his lungs would burst.  He let go, waiting for the inevitable.  When he reached the bottom, Micky discovered he could breathe. The curly headed drummer walked for a while, the song repeating. A light appeared ahead and Micky picked up his pace. Stepping inside what appeared to be a bright white room, Micky shielded his eyes till they adjusted.

"Hello, where did you come from," a soft female voice queried from his left.

Turning his head. Micky spied a cute light-auburn haired, hazel eyed girl. She wasn't extremely tall, looked to be about 5'6". She wore a pair of baggy coveralls that had a Disney cartoon character embroidered on the front with a grey long sleeved tee shirt under it and a black bubble cap. Around her neck hung a twisted black rope chain with a Celtic symbol on it.

Smiling, she walked closer. "Cat got your tongue?"

Micky smiled and softly replied, "No, I'm sorry." Looking around, he asked, "Where am I anyway?"

Frowning, the girl replied, "I have no idea." She continued with a shrug, "I was on my way to class and next thing I know I'm standing here."

Micky got a curious look on his face. "Class? I'm sorry you don't look like you should be in high school."

The girl giggled. "No, I'm in college. Studying to be a computer animator."

"Computer animator?" Micky's voice squeaked. "How can a computer animate anything?"

Giggling even more, the girl looked closer at him. There was something about him she couldn't put her finger on. "What's your name?"

"Micky Dolenz," he replied, "What's yours?"

"Most of my friend's call me Jai." She shrugged at the look on his face. "It's a nickname. My birth name is Jodi Whittaker."

"Hello Jai." Micky held his hand out for her to take and she shook it gently. Micky glanced past Jai and spied her back pack. It was stuffed and had small headphones attached to it.

"Why does that bag have little headphones plugged to it?"

Jai burst out laughing. "What *era* are you from? I mean goodness." Taking Micky's hand, she led him to her bag and unzipped it, revealing what the headphones were actually attached to.

Micky pulled the device from its pocket and inspected it. "What IS this?" He accidentally popped it open and the disk nearly fell out. "What a strange looking 45."

Jai laughed harder. "I haven't seen 45's in a long time. Hon, that's not a 45 that's a cd, a compact disk. It's digital."

"Digital," Micky asked curiously.

"The opposite of analog." Then Jai realized he might not even know what analog meant. "You know what stereo and mono are, right?"

"Yeah," Micky replied smiling.

"Well, it's sorta like that-in a bad way of explaining it. If I tried to explain more than that, it'd probably confuse you."

"Try me."

"First tell me, what era are you really from? I come from the early 21st century."

"No way. You're pulling my leg," Micky replied, his eyes wide and twinkling.

"No, really. Why do you think I have that cd player you're holding onto? And want to be a computer animator?" Jai smiled. "Now what era are you from, cuz you can't be from mine if you don't know what a cd player is and can't fathom a computer animating anything."

"1968," Micky replied still looking at the cd in his hands. The title read "sheryl crow c'mon c'mon".

"Woah! That was before I was born," Jai replied.

"How old are you," Micky asked.

"25, just turned 25," Jai smiled. "How old are you?"

"23 about to turn 24," Micky grinned. "I'm still older than you are though."

Jai giggled. "You're cute." Taking her hat off her head, she flopped it over his eyes.

Micky raised his head back, peeked from under the small brim and grinned.

Jai smiled and blushed a little. 'This guy sure is cute. Why couldn't there be cute guys from my era like him?' Sighing she looked at the cd player he still held and an idea came to her mind. Reaching in her bag, she produced a small pair of external speakers. "Wanna hear what a cd sounds like?"

"Sure." Micky replaced the cd in the player and closed the door while Jai plugged the external speakers in. Pressing the button, she skipped to her favorite song, "Diamond Road" and pressed play.

Micky's eyes went wide, but his expression didn't change.

Jai noticed his mood change. She felt it. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Micky replied.

Shaking her head, Jai refused to accept that as an answer. "No, something is wrong, I can feel it."

Micky looked at her. "What do you mean?"

"I felt it when your mood shifted. It was like being hit with some strong unseen hand. You can't say 'nothing' to me, I won't believe it."

"I heard this song just before I got here," Micky replied.

Jai started to go pale. "You did? I didn't have the external speakers plugged in." Something hit her. She skipped backwards to where the song ended and the next one, "Safe and Sound" began, and watched Micky's expression. This time, his expression did change - and from the look on Jai's face, Micky knew he was going to have to explain.

Micky told her about the bad dreams he had been having and hearing the song, that one song in particular, at least three times. He told her all the details he could remember.

"One good thing about telling me."

"What's that," Micky asked curiously.

"It won't happen. I've found that if you talk about bad dreams like that, especially the ones that seem to recur, they won't happen the way they do in the dreams."

"You speak like you've had tons of experience."

"I have." Jai pulled on her medallion.

"How did you feel my mood change? I mean I don't understand it."

"It's weird, I'm weird...someone once told me I had this ability, said it was empathy...the ability to see and feel others’ feelings."

"That has to be frustrating," Micky said sympathetically.

"It is, especially when they hit me at the most inopportune times and I can't do anything about it...not that I could anyway." She shivered and a small look of fright came over her features.

"What's wrong," Micky asked.

"I feel like we're being watched."

Looking around, Micky rose to his feet and walked around the small room. "You know, if I couldn't actually feel the wall, I'd think I was still dreaming." Standing in front of Jai, he looked down to her and put his hand out to help her up. Jai took his hand and rose from the floor. "I wanna do something to make even more positive I'm not dreaming."

Jai was slightly taken aback. She felt feelings she hadn't felt in a long time and they were coming from Micky. Leaning down, Micky pressed his lips against Jai's and kissed her deeply. Jai returned the kiss, thinking, 'Dreams don't feel this good.'

Micky thought the same thing.

Neither heard the door swish open, nor did they feel the tiny pinpricks in the back of their necks. Collapsing to the floor, Jai and Micky were picked up and carried out. Both woke hours later, lying in a big bed and next to one another, naked.

Jai tried to rise up, but her head hurt. She feared a migraine was coming on and didn't know where her backpack was that held her medicine. Micky tried the same thing, only to find his head hurt also. Looking over to Jai, he got worried. She looked rather pale.

"Jai," Micky whispered.

Jai tried to pull the meager blanket up around her, but noticed that when she did it, it crept up Micky's thigh, threatening to reveal his manhood. Blushing, she scooted down in the bed and looked at him.

"Yes, Micky?"

Micky tried to stifle a small giggle at the sight of Jai. She looked too cute when she did that, and the look on her face made Micky want to wrap his arms around her. Before he could stop himself, that's just what he did. Pulling Jai close to him, he asked, "You ok?"

Jai's first instinct was to pull away, which she tried, but gave up when she found she didn't have the strength to resist him. If he wasn't so damned cute, Jai would have smacked him. Looking up at him and seeing the genuine look of concern in his eyes she replied, "Got a migraine coming on and I don't know where my bag is to take care of it."

"Oh, I'm sorry." Micky's voice was soft and the sound caressed her ears like a sweet song. Before she knew what was happening, Micky was kissing her. Unable to stop herself, Jai wrapped her arms around Micky's shoulders and started tracing the center of his back lightly.

Micky scooted closer to Jai, his groin pressing into her thigh. Jai could feel the hard on he had and this fueled her passion. Tracing her fingertips lightly down his back, she reached his hip and traced her way to the length of his shaft. Lightly caressing his rock hard rod, she felt Micky slowly kiss his way down to her breast and lightly suck and nip at it, tracing his tongue around her nipple and blowing lightly.

Jai took Micky's member in her hand and started pumping it slowly, carefully rubbing his balls in the process. Micky raised his head and kissed his way back to Jai's waiting lips. Climbing on top of her, he gently pushed her legs apart with his knee. Once he settled between her legs, Micky continued kissing Jai as he raised her hips and slid inside her.

Jai's knees bent toward the ceiling and she wrapped her arms around his waist, her breath catching a little. 'Good lord he feels so good," Jai thought.

Looking in Jai's eyes, Micky started pumping slowly, letting Jai get used to the way he felt. Jai smiled sweetly and started pumping her hips in time with Micky. Caressing Jai's cheek, Micky returned the smile. Leaning down, he kissed her shoulder and whispered in her ear, "Can I keep you?"

Jai would have let Micky have the moon and all the stars at that moment, so she nodded and kissed him softly. Their rhythm buliding, Jai and Micky climaxed together. Micky collapsed on top of her. Not wanting to let her go, he turned over on his back and kept Jai on top of him, still inside her.

Jai kissed him and looked curiously at him. Micky smiled. "I wanna be as close as I can to you. I don't wanna let go."

Smiling she laid her head on his chest and Micky wrapped his arms around her. Sleep pulled the couple into its embrace.
